"No cash, no ATM card – definitely no credit card. That was what I had decided for the trip..."

From tales of road romance and international espionage, to escaping from horror movie villains and police dogs…

This collection represents the funniest, most absurd, and most dangerous situations Michael has managed to get himself into in his last 15 years on the road.

Lift Stories and Life Lessons from 15 Years of Hitchhiking the World eBook Michael A Jameson

This story of life's travels by unconventional means, is truly a testament to this young mans adventurous heart. It is well written and keeps the reader engaged. I wanted to read more hitchhiking stories but alas he only chose to share a few. Perhaps he will continue to share his global experiences with us in the future. I think these stories will either make a person get out there and hitchhike around the world themselves or scare them enough to make them take a plane. Who knows? Good read.

Lift Stories and Life Lessons from 15 Years of Hitchhiking the World eBook Michael A Jameson Reviews

No one has any doubt that hitchhiking is an adventure, but Michael has seen it all. A great, fun read that will make you smile!
I already was a fan of Micheal's blog and was not desapointed at all by his book. Eventhough I had a long day of work, I could not take my eyes of the book for "just one more story". The short stories are easy to read and truly give back the feel of hitchhicking and I'm sure for those who never hitchhike, it would probably bring down all the prejudices and bad stories we always hear. I do recommend it to anyone interested in travelling, an awesome book to read on the road and exchange at a hostel to make sure the book travels as much as its author!
I'm always a fan of travel stories, and Michael's collection of short tales really made me miss travelling (although I'm nowhere near as adventurous as he is!). It's easy to read, and easy to imagine that you're there. As he says at the start, there are some cringeworthy moments in older entries - but he hasn't edited them out, and that's all part of the charm! My only negative comment is that it's too short - I read it in a couple of hours. I'm sure there are many more stories to tell from his 15 years of hitchhiking! )
A concise volume of short stories, Lift Stories and Lessons from 15 Years of Hitchhiking the World isn’t your run-of-the-mill travel memoir. Opening with “Upon Meeting the 100% Perfect Moncton Girl”, an essay on the sad sweetness of unrequited love, Jameson’s writing balances laugh-out-loud shenanigans of life on the road with poignant reflections on relationships both with the self and others. The collection of mostly former blog posts is interspersed with short explanatory essays based on the writings of Lao Tzu, lending structure, coherence, and meaning to the book. Sure to delight a range of audiences, from backpackers to buskers and beyond.
The only shortcoming of Michael's book is that when you finish it you're not quite satisfied, you just want to read more of his stories. I met Mike while traveling in Morocco and as a fellow east coaster right away you could see his friendly and outgoing spirit, and inquisitive nature. He regaled us with stories from his travels while we sipped beer on a rooftop terrace in Marrakesh, and it was evident that we were in the presence of a natural yarn-spinner.

He told me of this book, and when I opened it one evening a few weeks after meeting Mike, I devoured it all in one sitting. The book brought me to hearty belly-laughs and brought a few tears of nostalgia to my eyes when thinking of my own travels. Mike's book is a collection of short vignettes of the most essential truth that any traveler quickly comes to realize. The road is itself the adventure, the destination is mostly just incidental.
Mike is a living legend. In this book (the first of many, I hope), he describes a series of stories which can be useful for wannabe hitchhikers (specially on how to deal with the fear on your first hitchhiking experience), experienced travelers (how to deal with tough situations in foreign countries), and people who are starting to question themselves if being in their comfort zone is really a good thing to do, with so many adventures out there.
But, most important of all, the stories shared by Mike will help you rethink about your life and, I hope, to grab your backpack, fill it with the essentials for surviving, and hitchhike towards adventure.
I fell in love with Mike (figuratively speaking) the first time I met him during my study abroad in Japan, and we spent a full year together in a dormitory in Kumamoto. He really does have the heart of a traveler, and when you are lucky enough to cross paths with him, be prepared to be inspired and delighted. Truly an amazing man, like the Tim Ferriss of the open road. This book is a testament of his many adventures, and we are very fortunate that he's sharing them with us to enjoy.
